About the Team

The Pittsburgh Riverhounds started and Academy program in 2007. The club
was bought by GreenTree Sportsplex. Jason Kutney was named the Academy Director of the Youth Teams. The Academy was originally created with the English Premier team Everton as their partner. In 2009 the Academy was expanded to go all year round. The RDA trains kids from ages 3-17. The Academy has expanded rapidly and generates 80% of the Riverhounds revenue.

In 2013 the Riverhounds launched their first Academy team to represent the professional
team in Youth Competitions across America. Ten months after the launch the Girls Academy claimed their first national championship, being ranked 1st in the nation.

Many of the players attract NCAA Division I colleges and the U.S National Team. Since the national championship the academy has sent at least 2 players to U.S National Team camps. More than 30 players have been invited to United States Soccer Federation training center located in Ohio.

The Riverhounds left GreenTree Sportsplex for Allegany Health Network Sports Complex at Cool Springs in Pittsburgh's South Hills. The whole Academy and first team will be using this facility in the winter until we are able to train at Highmark. (Photo)
